
On June 17, 2025, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) disbursed Rs 300 crore as margin money subsidy to 11,480 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The funds were transferred directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts through a virtual event held at KVIC's Rajghat office in Delhi. The disbursal was made against a total loan sanction of Rs 906 crore. KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar led the event, joined by CEO Roop Rashi and other senior officials.
Highlighting the impact of PMEGP, the Chairman said the scheme has evolved into a key pillar of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India. He added that beyond financial assistance, PMEGP has turned into a grassroots movement empowering youth, women, and artisans to take up entrepreneurship and create local employment opportunities.
All six zones of the country participated in the virtual event. The Central Zone, which includes Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand, received Rs 72 crore for 2,403 projects. The East Zone comprising Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands saw Rs 22 crore disbursed for 996 projects.
In North India, states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh received Rs 61 crore for 2,713 projects. The North East Region, including states such as Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, saw Rs 2 crore disbursed for 81 projects.
Southern states witnessed the highest allocation, with Rs 116 crore disbursed across 4,565 projects in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. In the Western states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa, Rs 26 crore was given out for 722 projects.
According to KVIC, PMEGP has helped set up over 10.18 lakh micro enterprises since its launch, with loans worth Rs 73,348 crore sanctioned and subsidies totalling Rs 27,166 crore disbursed. The scheme has generated employment for over 90 lakh people, making it one of the most successful self-employment initiatives in the country.
